Wear comfortable shoes and make plans to join us for our BOMA Social event during KC's First Fridays at the "Truck Stop" (21st & Wyandotte in the Crossroads), following the Spotlight Tour!

To access the event (from the Spotlight Tour), simply use the Freighthouse Pedestrian Bridge (located in the North end of Union Station), cross over the tracks and end up in the Crossroads district. Then, make a short walk to The Truck Stop, 21st & Wyandotte!

Founded in 1957, Kansas City Ballet is a 25-member professional ballet company under the direction of Artistic Director William Whitener and Executive Director Jeffrey J. Bentley. Their new home, Kansas City Ballet’s Todd Bolender Center for Dance & Creativity, which opened August 2011, in conjunction with our new stage at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, is poised to make Kansas City AND Kansas City Ballet a true destination for dance.

The renovations used the 65,000 square feet (6,000 m²) of space to create seven studios, including the 180-seat Michael and Ginger Frost Studio Theater. The building design includes areas for production, wardrobe/costume, physical therapy, storage, artist locker rooms and administration. BNIM Architects were challenged with adapting the Power House structure into a new facility. Design elements from the historic building will be incorporated to create unique interior elements, such as coal hoppers and ash chutes as children’s dressing rooms. Restoring the abandoned Power House building to the new home for the Kansas City Ballet cost approximately $39 million, which included a $7 million endowment. Of the costs, $11 million came in the form of state and federal historic tax cuts given to the Kansas City Ballet for restoring this near extinct building.
